[ wash is just wiling away some time at the arcade, slowly getting things in order, figuring things out. a message from eddie appears on his device and at first he's just smiling because ah, he should tell eddie about the arcade, right? who would be more delighted to know. but then he reads on, and.
the reply's delayed. a few things happen: sombra needing help immediately sends alarm bells . . . because it's coming from someone else. sombra has never hesitated to flood his device over needing anything from an emergency snack delivery to wanting him to answer some frivolous question, and she sure as hell wouldn't hesitate to contact him directly over something important. he's already getting up, starting to move, and. south.
shit. breathe. the city's lied to them before. he's already on the move, locking up and heading to his bike outside, but he's running through every check he knows how to do -- checking her id on the network, through the secure networks that sombra has connected them through directly through their interfaces -- null, nothing, deactivated and no result. he even checks for her damn body double cam, and. nothing. nothing. he his stomach sinks, and as he moves to his bike parked out back in the alley, as he can start hearing his own heart pounding in his ears, the only thing he sees is the memory of -- his own helmet, reflected back to him in the gold of south's faceplate. she's in front of him, her voice strained and mocking. what are you going to do, wash? he remembers the weight of the gun in his hands. it'd been as easy as breathing.
the engine roars to life and wash doesn't really notice the purple lightshow this time. he sends a reply; ]
[ definitely eddie needs to learn about the arcade, will love that this exists in his circle. for now, he's not expecting a lot out of wash, knows that this will affect him, too. knows that south is from his home, a good friend of wash's, has seen her referred to as an agent as well. can't possibly know more than the basics. it's heavy on his mind that this is affecting sombra so deeply because she's clearly in love with south, the feelings seemingly returned in spades.
even if eddie's gut instinct is that it will have a strong impact on sombra, he smoothly slides into thinking about how wash is doing, too. ]
